mission + values

At Red Bird Press, we believe in the democratic power of printed communication and art to empower individuals and communities.

Printmaking and Book Arts have deep, historical roots that have dramatically shaped the way we live. As part of our mission, we serve as stewards of history by preserving, maintaining, and actively using our collection of antique equipment with special care and attention. We believe this work is essential to create meaningful access points for our community to learn, create, and engage with these art forms.

We believe in the power of art to enable connection and enrich our lives.

we believe:

  • Printmaking and Book Arts are valuable mediums to the contemporary world of art, and their continued relevance is dependent on the sharing of knowledge, skills, and access.

  • Education and activation through art can foster new relationships and partnerships between artists and the community that can improve the quality of life for everyone.

  • Printmaking and Book Arts cultivate human connection, historical education, and literacy skills.

  • All artists in our area need access to an affordable, inclusive art space that provides rare, specialized equipment necessary for Book Arts and Printmaking projects.

Our purpose is to promote printed communication, share knowledge, and ensure access to rare printmaking and book arts equipment for the Greater Houston community through memberships, educational programs, and community outreach.

Mission Statement:

Red Bird Press is a community-driven, artist-run facility dedicated to preserving and sustaining the crafts of Printmaking and Book Arts. With the shared belief that print isn’t dead, we are focused on enhancing the democratic quality of printmaking by creating inventive and strategic programs that invite interest and/or bring people into the studio, either through paid workshops, extended educational courses, or community outreach. Our vision is to create a community-centric space for artistic expression, education, and collaboration, allowing the historic craft of analog communication to continue to inspire people while keeping antique equipment in use.
