June 4: Image Transfer with Hannah Bender

Using standard office Xerox prints and odorless solvent, this demo will show guests how to transfer images onto new surfaces using an etching press. During the demo, guests will learn about image transferring processes, its history, how it can be used, and the chemistry behind it. This process allows for versatile photography printing on alternate surfaces, such as assorted fabrics, textiles, papers and more!

June 11: Colorful Screenprinting with Aaron Zern & Jessica Farris

A demonstration of multicolor screen printing processes, beginning with an overview of each artist’s approach. The demo will cover creating film positives by hand with attention to registration and color, as well as setting up layers using pins and tabs. Guests will observe screen preparation, registration techniques, and the full printing process through layered ink applications.

June 18: Variable Prints Letterpress with Gaby Hurtado-Ramos

Variable printmaking is a practice that yields multiples that vary in color, registration, backgrounds, and other details as the artist sees fit. In this letterpress demo we will become acquainted with various applications to create engaging multi-colored variable print posters on the Vandercook press. Gaby Hurtado-Ramos will demonstrate how to combine elements of design and bold text using Red Bird Press's beautiful wood type collection in variable printed layers. Examples on how to prepare a basic lock-up for printing, applying various inks to a single form, and split fountain inking will be covered.

June 25: Copper Etching with Lauren Christlieb

Etching is a printmaking process with deep historical roots that can create a variety of tones and marks on a copper plate. In this demo, Lauren will lead guests through the preparation and printing process unique to copper etching, introducing the basic principles and techniques for the process such as applying hard ground, creating lines, and dipping your plate into acid (ferric chloride). Finished copper plate etching prints will be available to see examples and reference points of the medium.

July 2: tetrapak with jai España and Jordan bolduc

A demonstration of etching with repurposed Tetrapak material. Jai and Jordan will cover sourcing and preparing plates, scribing and image development, and printing techniques. The demo highlights how this accessible material can be used to create etched marks, shaped plates, and varied textural effects unique to tetrapak.

PrintHouston 2026 biennial

PrintHouston is pleased to announce PrintHouston 2026, the tenth city-wide celebration of original prints, the artists who create them and the people who collect them!

We will kick-off the celebration with keynote speakers, Ayn Greinstein and Joni Weyl Felsen, owners of Gemini G.E.L., Friday, May 30th at Glassell School of Art Favrot Auditorium.

On Saturday, May 31st in the MFAH, Kinder Building, Dr. Dena M. Woodall, curator, prints and drawings at MFAH, along with Ayn Greinstein and Joni Weyl Felsen, will discuss the Gemini G.E.L. exhibit dedicated Prints and Drawings Gallery. A lecture/demo on printmaking will take place afterwards in the Print Studio at The Glassell School of Art.
